This sunny necklace and earring set is made of calcite, freshwater pearls, and crystal, with pewter toggle clasp and spacers.
Calcite is derived from the Latin calx, meaning lime. It is found in veins, ore deposits, and as a constituent of rock limestone and marble. It is not scarce, but it is one of the most difficult of all minerals to be cut because of perfect cleavage in three directions. Therefore, the cost of the faceted stone is mainly in the labor of cutting it.
The necklace is 26.5 inches long, so it may be put over the head instead of using the toggle clasp. The earrings are 2 inches long with sterling silver ear wires.
