I am retired, and at retirement relocated to North Carolina. After employment in various fields, including nursing, commercial art, calligraphy business, management in a security company among other things, I managed a shop in a national party supply chain, which included store display work. With each job along the way, I found inspiration and opportunities to find what I like to do best. As my work life wound down, I spent many years volunteering in senior facilities in Florida and continue to volunteer in Orange County with Social Services.
I took classes at the Folk Art School in North Carolina years ago and fell into gourd art, which has held my interest for many years. Finding unusual shapes and planning designs is a hobby that keeps me busy now.
Now in my 80's, I look forward to continuing this craft. Cutting, carving, dyeing, painting etc. with these natural objects is a joy. I would encourage anyone who wants to have fun crafting....try gourds.
