My mom started teaching me to sew when I was about 8 but I didn’t like following “store bought” patterns. So all my life I thrived on creative sewing, making my own patterns when sewing garments, quilts, and handcrafted fabric gifts. I began seriously making purses 13 years ago when I retired from teaching.
All of my handbags are made using cotton fabrics and/or synthetic suedes. I am proud to say that I design all of my own patterns when creating my purses. My early top handled purses have morphed into wristlets, shoulder bags, totes, eyeglass/cell phone cases, jewelry cases, coin purses, and even car trash bags.
I like to use bold, multi-colored, fabrics. My favorite fabrics to sew with are Batik’s because they present artistic opportunities in the fabric before the design process even begins. I embellish my purses with decorative stitching, buttons (many times, buttons I make myself) and metal charms. I especially love using seed beads and miniature faux pearls. I welcome custom orders and the challenge of creating new purse designs.
