Hand coiled baskets made with longleaf pine needles are a tradition in North Carolina.
I made this basket using a universal basket-making technique called coiling. To make the coils, I use a continuous stitch to sew together small bundles of pine needles using nylon cording in green and purple, the colors of WomanCraft. I then stack the coils to form the basket.
The bottom of this basket is a pottery disk specially made for me by my sister. It has an imprint of a leaf from a gingko tree. The center disk measures approximately 3.5 inches in diameter.
To preserve the colors, do not display in direct sunlight.
