The colors in these emu eggshell earrings are entirely natural. The process of creating them begins when my emu, Mel, lays her eggs! I meticulously drain and clean them. Then I carve the basic shapes, polish the edges and coat the back of the pieces with strong resin. To create the design, I carve through the outer dark green layer of the shell to reveal the teal and white layers beneath. The white layer is so thin that it is translucent. I coat the face of the pieces with resin to protect them and then add a Czech crystal rhinestone, silver plated bale and sterling ear wires.

Although the earrings have been reinforced and are quite sturdy, handle them as you would glass. They can chip if dropped on a hard surface. To clean, wipe the surface with a damp cloth. If needed, wash gently with dish soap.  Avoid using chemical cleaners and abrasive polishes. Please store the earrings away from direct light when not in use. The colors may deepen or become bluer over time. Each eggshell is unique!

The eggshell carving is about 1.5 inches long by 1 inch wide.  The total length from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the eggshell is 1.75 inches.
