Marquetry Plaque - Catittude
Marquetry is an art that dates back to the pharaohs and has survived for centuries. It uses as its prime material the natural veneers of trees from all over the world. These veneers are selected for their color and texture, cut by knife and/or saw, mounted on a rigid base, and then completed with a glass-smooth finish.
This piece, featuring a sly cat, is made up of veneers of Curly Maple, Zebrano, Birdseye Lauro Preto, Pearwood and Dyed Ash. It measures 12 inches x 6 inches and is approximately .5 inches thick.
Caring for your picture is easy. Keep it away from direct sunlight and protect it from extremes of heat, moisture, and dryness. Periodic cleaning and polishing, as you would any fine wood, will preserve and enhance its finish and beauty.
This item is made by Beth Woody. Her complete collection is available at our Carrboro, North Carolina store along with pieces by other members of the Chapel Hill Woodturners, To see more of Beth's items available online, click here.
